The Reno City Council last week adopted measures addressing the number of packaged liquor licenses and setting new standards for them in the downtown Reno Redevelopment Area.

The new ordinance allows licensing of wine cellars and gift package businesses that offer alcohol has part of gift packages for off site consumption as well as full service grocery stores with a minimum of 9,000 square feet of floor space.

Those stores will be restricted to no more than 5 per cent of display space for packaged liquor products, and no more than 5 percent of gross receipts for packaged liquor sales.

In addition, the stores will be required to employ a security guard between 10 p.m.

and 6 a.m., if the store is open during those hours.

There are currently 33 packaged liquor licenses in the downtown district, but under the new ordinance, no new licenses can be sought until the number of licenses drops below 14.
