One person remained hospitalized Friday after a chemical reaction at a northeast Carson City business caused evacuations and required specialized cleanup.

According to Carson City Fire Department Capt. Adrienne Weintz, chemicals used by Triangle Labs were accidentally mixed up about 1:30 p.m. during a move from their Research Way building to their new location at Morgan Mill Road.

"An alkaline accelerator and an acid got mixed and weren't compatible. They offed gas and vapors," she said.

Weintz said five people were taken to Carson-Tahoe Hospital complaining of difficulty breathing, dizziness, itchy eyes or chest pains.

Four were treated and released, she said. One person complaining of breathing difficulty was admitted.

A hazmat team, made up of Lyon, Douglas, Carson and Storey counties, cleared the building and reopened traffic on Research Way by 5 p.m.
