Carson Furniture Inc., which operates Winans Furniture stores on Kietzke Lane in Reno and Highway 395 in Minden, filed for protection under Chapter 11 of the federal bankruptcy code.
Andrew J.Winans, president, owns 100 percent of the company's stock, according to the bankruptcy filing.
Attorney Stephen R.Harris of Belding, Harris and Petroni in Reno, handled the bankruptcy filing at U.S.
Bankruptcy Court in Reno.
Among the 20 largest creditors listed in the filing are:
* Winans LLC of Reno, $1.7 million.
State documents show that Andrew Winans is a member of that limited liability corporation.
* James W.Winans of Minden, $1.2 million.
He also is owed $32,380 in back rent for the Reno store.
* RH Brown of Minden, $139,390.
* Andrew J.Winans of Minden, $139,046.
* Miller, Jade & Tenley of Reno, $100,000.
* New Plan Excel Realty Trust of Los Angeles, $75,901 in back rent for the Reno store.
* Alpine Furniture of Santa Fe Springs, Calif., $66,875.
* El Ran of Quebec, Canada, $61,236.
TV stations KOLO and KTVN in Reno also are listed among the company's biggest creditors.
Winans-Yoder Furniture of Fallon has no connection with the other Winans stores, says Larry Yoder, president of the Fallon store.
