The Nevada Association of Employers last week began collecting data for its annual survey of wage rates, and the association says the data may be even more important than usual because of the region's tight labor market.
Because unemployment has hovered around 3 percent, employers need good information about whether their compensation packages are competitive, says Marlese Thomas, who heads marketing and membership services for the association.
Retention of existing staff as well as recruitment of new workers requires good data, Thomas says.
The employers association has prepared wage surveys for more than 20 years, and has begun collecting information from companies ranging from the region's largest employers to small family-owned firms.
The data, which remains confidential, is used to compile wage figures by industry type, number of employees and geographic area for approximately 200 job classifications.
The completed survey is available for purchase in July, and participants in the survey get a price break.Members of the association pay $25 for the survey.New members get the survey free.Non-members that participate in the survey pay $250.Non-member companies that didn't participate in the survey will be charged $400.
