Winans liquidation ahead after its bankruptcy filing

Winans Furniture stores in Reno and Minden will reopen in about a week for a liquidation sale of about $1 million worth of inventory, says attorney Stephen Harris of Belding,Harris & Petroni, Ltd., of Reno, who is handling the company's filing at U.S.

Bankruptcy Court in Reno.

The exact date of the liquidation sale is pursuant to court approval, says Harris.

Angelique Clark was assigned as trustee by the U.S.

Bankruptcy Court.Attorney Bill Cossitt is appointed for the court.

Carson Furniture Inc., which operates Winans Furniture stores on Kietzke Lane in Reno and Highway 395 in Minden, last month filed for protection under Chapter 11 of the federal bankruptcy code.A Reno warehouse supplied the stores.

The Winans LLC, a major creditor to Carson Furniture Inc., recently filed for protection under Chapter 7 of the federal bankruptcy code.

Owners of The Winans LLC are Andrew and Catherine Winans, with 50 percent interest each, according to the bankruptcy filing.

When Carson Furniture Inc.

filed for Chapter 11 protection, The Winans LLC of Reno was listed as a major creditor, owed $1.7 million.
