Teams compete to present the best business plans

Two teams from the University of Nevada, Reno, and two teams from Sierra Nevada College at Incline Village are among the six finalists in a high-stakes business plan competition among Nevada collegians.

The winning team, which will receive $20,000,will be selected on Wednesday after a day of presentations that are open to the public.

The second-place team will receive $10,000, and the third-place team will win $5,000.

Team members will split the winnings, and their advisors each will receive a $1,000 prize.

The presentations, at which teams will disclose the details of their businesses, run from 8 a.m.

to 3 p.m.

at John Ascuaga's Nugget in Sparks.

Reynolds Governor's Cup Awards Gala, at which the winning teams will be announced, is scheduled to begin with networking at 5 p.m.

and dinner at 6:30 Wednesday at the Rose Ballroom at John John Ascuaga's Nugget.

Among the finalists are these northern Nevada teams:

* Sierra Nevada College: Students Peter Winnicki and Amanda Ford with business plan "Kismet"; advised by Peter Hackbert.

* Sierra Nevada College: Students Michael Chestone and Richard Donnelly with business plan "Simply Sun"; advised by Hackbert.

* UNR: Students Stephanie Luongo and Benjamin Haas with business plan "Sierra Nevada Seafood"; advised by Mehdi Etezadi.

* UNR: Students Joleye Hayes, Devrin Lee and J.D.Morschek with business plan "DermaMat"; advised by Gary Valiere.

The other two teams that are finalists come from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

The competition, the first of its kind in Nevada, is overseen by the Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology.

Tickets for the awards dinner are $35 a person or $350 for a table of 10.
