A memorial service for Mildred Lavina (Baxter) (McNeil) Buchanan, 95, will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at FitzHenry's Funeral Home.

She died Aug. 2, 2005. She was born May 11, 1910.

Mrs. Buchanan worked at the Ormsby County Clerk's Office, the Ormsby County Sheriff's Office and the Nevada State Legislature as a proofreader. Before she lost her sight, she enjoyed playing Scrabble, knitting, crocheting, painting ceramics and baking and decorating cakes. She collected cookbooks.

She was a charter member of Carson-Tahoe Auxiliary and Carson Eagles Auxiliary. She was a member of Neighbors of Woodcraft, Rebekahs, and the Thimble Club. She volunteered at the senior center.

She was preceded in death by husbands Edgar V. McNeil Sr. of Carson City in 1947 and Herbert "Tuffy" Buchanan of Carson City in 1977; brothers William Mathew Baxter in 1952, Joseph Edward Baxter in 1973, John Baxter in 1985 and George Merton Baxter Sr. in 1969; daughter Betty Mildred Riehl in 1993 and son Edgar V. McNeil in 1997.

Among her survivors are her daughter Elinor (McNeil) (Cooke) Berger of Carson City; granddaughters Carolyn Mirich, Lorraine Hermiston, Jeannie Olsen, Diana Farrow, Michele Candee, Linda Baxter and Netti DeBusk of Wellington; grandsons Jack Cooke, George McNeil and Laurien Riehl; and many extended- family members.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Hospice of Northern Nevada fund, 520 W. Sixth St. Reno, NV 89503.
