Brushfire burning near top of Geiger Grade

(Staff reports) Firefighters expected to contain a brushfire burning near the top of Geiger Grade off Toll Road by midnight Sunday night.

As of 6 p.m. Sunday, the Toll Road fire had burned about 25 acres of sagebrush and grass.

The fire broke out about 5 p.m. Sunday, reportedly sparked by an off-road vehicle in the area.

Reno Fire, Storey County Fire, U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and the Nevada Division of Forestry responded to the fire. Resources were expected to be released from the fire at midnight except for two engines and two handcrews for mopping up, patrolling, and monitoring the fire activity.
