BISHOP, CALIF. AREA: Gary Olson of the Bishop Creek Resorts (760-873-4484): "We are closed for the season, but we want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year."

BLUE LAKES AREA, CALIF: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930): "Same report as before: The road to Blue Lakes is closed and the gate is shut and locked for the winter.

If anyone is interested, we now have the 2006 fishing licenses.

CAPLES LAKE, CALIF: Dave Kirby reported, "No report, we have not had a human being for a long time. It is really quiet up here."

DAVIS LAKE, CALIF: Andy at The Gilly Sporting Goods Store in Sparks (358-6113) reported, "Not much going on, right now. A guy caught a couple the other day. He was fly fishing and "stripping" slow. There is some ice forming along the edges."

EAGLE LAKE, CALIF: Closes on Dec. 31.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR, CALIF: Dave Kirby said, "No report, we have not had a human being for a long time. It is really quiet up here. Weather permitting, they will plant the reservoir in Thursday for the last plant of the year."

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: George Molino of the Pyramid Lake Store (775-476-0555) reported: "There have not been a lot of fishermen, due to the weather. We had 5 inches of snow from that storm. The last couple of days it has been kind of windy. Last Thursday, we (Pyramid Lake Charters) caught at least 20, with most of them between 21 and 24 inches. We were trolling Apex lures. The other boats were also catching fish."

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Andy at the Gilly reported, "Pyramid Lake has been spotty due to the weather.

Ralph Bell of Reno caught a 12-pounder, while fly fishing with a "Andy Special Fly from The Gilly" at the North Nets.

Bring your fish in to be registered and photographed for a drawing at the end of the season for a fly fishing rod and reel combo worth more than $800."

RED LAKE, CALIF: Dave Kirby reported, "No report, we have not had a human being for a long time. It is really quiet up here."

SILVER LAKE, CALIF: Linda Thorbjornson at Kay's Silver Lake Resort (209-258-8598): "We got about 13 inches of snow from that storm. The lake is not completely froze over, yet. There is some ice, but not enough to go out on. There is still some open water showing.

Mona (the owner) is in the hospital at South Lake Tahoe and should be home any day now.

Our cabins are being rented, mostly by cross country skiers and snowshoers.

We rent snowshoes ($15 a day), if you need them.

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462): "The fishing has been good to excellent on every trip.

Catching Mackinaw trout early in the morning and tagging and releasing the smaller ones.

We're catching lots of fish, but nothing super big.

Trolling the deep-water area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades with live minnows or large Apex lures.

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552): "Agate Bay and Dollar Point have been good, early in the mornings.

We are trolling for Macks with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows at depths of 160-300 feet, along the edges of the drop-offs."

LAKE TAHOE - South Shore: Gene St. Denis: "Fishing has been good to excellent at Ski Run Mound, Ski Run Shelf and Camp Richardson.

We are trolling 150-300 feet deep with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows.

On Dec. 17, Doug Busey of Douglas County was with me and he caught a 36-inch Mackinaw (estimated:16-20 pounds) on a Rapala lure in 20 feet of water at Camp Richardson.

LAKE TAHOE - East Shore:

Gene St. Denis: "They are picking up rainbows (1-4 pounds), trolling at Logan Shoals and Deadman's Point. The shore fishermen are picking up rainbows from the Cave Rock Landing."

TOPAZ LAKE: Opens on Jan. 1.

TRUCKEE RIVER, NEV: Andy at the Gilly: "The Truckee River has been spotty. Some good days, some bad days, due to the storm weather. Fish the downtown Reno area with a big Zonker Streamer or try a Crawdad on the bottom."

WALKER LAKE, NEV: Shore fishing has been very good at the far south end of the lake.

Fishermen in chest waders are catching Lahontan cutthroat trout, up to 4 pounds.

Spincasting with various colored No. 2 TOR-P-DO lures.

Your best bet is a rainbow colored lure.

Trolling is good in the Sportsmen's Beach area, with silver flasher blades and light colored lures in shallow water.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR, NEV: Dennis Dunn at the Wild Horse Resort (775) 758-6472: "We've got about 6 inches of fresh snow on the ground (Monday morning).

We've got 8-10 inches of good, hard ice and they are out there, ice fishing.

They are picking up lots of perch and trout.

Fish with small, white-colored, lead-head jigs with a plastic tail, together with a tiny piece of worm, mealworm or cocktail shrimp on the hook.

Remember to drop that combination down to the bottom, bring it up about 1-2 turns on the reel handle and slowly jig, up and down."
