George W. Whitney, 72, died Jan. 29, 2005. He was born April 24, 1932, in Los Angeles to Neil and Genevieve Whitney.

He was a longtime resident of Lake Tahoe, Reno and the Carson City area.

He attended Los Angeles City College and graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a degree in economics.

Mr. Whitney worked in the real estate field and various aspects of the title industry.

He then worked for the Real Estate Division of the state of Nevada as chief of project registration, deputy administrator and then interim administrator.

After retiring, he became a self-employed real estate consultant. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, the outdoors, the mountains and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Julia Murphy.

Among his survivors are his wife, Barbara of Carson City; son, Christopher G. of Reno; sister, Carol Roberts of Fallon; brothers, Patrick of Carlsbad, Calif., and Michael of Carson City; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada.

A memorial service will be at a later date by the waterfall at Fallen Leaf Lake.

Capitol City Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
