A memorial service for Robert Perry Ellis Sr., a Wellington resident for the past nine years, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Douglas County Senior Center.
Mr. Ellis died Feb. 1, 2005, in Fremont, Calif.
He was born March 5, 1925, in New York City, N.Y., to Lewis and Albertine Ellis.
He married Francis Finn on July 29, 1950.
Mr. Ellis joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served four years on the USS Belnap, USS Savannah, USS Marblehead, USS566 Cruiser and the USS Spokane.
He joined the U.S. Coast Guard in New York in 1948 and retired as chief quartermaster.
He was an active member of Fleet Reserve Association Branch 137 and the past National Chaplain of FRA, commander of Topaz VFW Post 3630, a Mason and the VFW Military Order of the Cootie.
After retiring from the Coast Guard, he worked for the Newark Unified School District in Newark, Calif., until his retirement.
After moving to Wellington, he was a volunteer at the Kid's Fishing Derby for eight years.
Mr. Ellis was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years on May 3, 2001.
Among his survivors are his children Robert Jr. and Wayne, both of Gardnerville; John of Newark, Calif., Brenda Musich of Tracy, Calif., and Randi Glass of Las Vegas; brother, Lewis Jr. of Santa Cruz, Calif.; daughters-in-law Janet Ellis, Crista Ellis and Pamela Rodrigues; son-in-law Bixby Musich; grandchildren Ben, Brian and Brianne Musich and Heather, Tiffany, Caylie and Wyatt Ellis of Gardnerville and Caitlin Ellis of Newark and great-grandchildren Brooklyne and Jordyne Musich.
Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Fernley Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
