Accountant Sherri Lindloff closed up her ledger books last summer and picked up an ice cream scoop opening Chip's and Sherri's Ice Cream at Mira Loma and McCarran in Reno.
The new business sells soft-serve ice cream in cones, shakes, malts and other creamy concoctions.
And, for an accountant turned entrepreneur, it's fun, says Lindloff.
But fun was not what drove her and husband, Richard (Chip) Lindloff, an executive headhunter, into the frozen food industry.
"We wanted our own business," she says.
"We wanted it to be local."
They looked into an RV park and a day spa.
But what was missing in the area the market with a gap scooped out of it was ice cream.
Chip's and Sherri's is targeting a cool niche for itself affordable, fun ice cream.
Family fun, says Lindloff, for a family of four, for under $15.
And the future? If all goes well and folks keep coming in though blizzard and heat wave, is expansion into additional ice cream parlor locations.
