The Nevada Commission on Economic Development is looking for alfalfa growers to partner with Chinese farmers.

The commission has been asked by the Liaoning,Hebei and Shandong Provinces of China, regions surrounding Bejing and in northeast China, to recruit alfalfa growers to support China's growing dairy needs.

The westernization of the Chinese diet has created a higher demand for dairy products.

China's estimated 5 million head of dairy cows are fed hay that doesn't produce quality milk, and the Chinese government is recruiting Nevada alfalfa growers to partner with Chinese farmers to grow a better feed.

Al Di Stefano, director of NCED's Global Trade and Investment Division is working on a grant to fund a trade mission to China for Nevada

alfalfa growers.

Di Stefano has generated some interest from the Nevada Hay Growers Association but is still searching for alfalfa growers to take with him to China.

Di Stefano said exports of alfalfa to China don't make economic sense, so Chinese officials hope to import growers' expertise instead Alfalfa growers interested in traveling to China to meet with government officials to discuss joint venture opportunities should call Stefano 687-4325 or ccintl@bizopp.state.nv.us.
