Response from Reno and Lake Tahoe residents has been strong to the introduction of a Reno site on craigslist, the popular San Francisco-based network of city sites.
The Reno site was one of 20 cities brought on by craigslist in November, and its traffic consistently ranked in the top half of those new sites, said Jim Buckmaster, the nonprofit organization's chief executive officer.
That's not surprising, given the close ties between the Reno-Tahoe area and the San Francisco home base of craigslist, Buckmaster said last week.
He said the organization launched the Reno site after receiving numerous requests from northern Nevada residents."If anything, we were overdue," he said.
Launched in 1995, craigslist provides listings for everyday services - jobs, events, housing and the like. All the listings are free except for job listings posted from a handful of big cities including San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York City.
It generates about 1.7 billion page views from about 7 million visitors a month.
