Saint Mary's opens oncology center

Saint Mary's Radiation and Oncology Center has opened adjacent to Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center.

Executives of Saint Mary's say the 15,000- square-foot facility provides the region's most advanced technology for treating cancer.

Services at this facility include high-doserate brachytherapy, which inserts a small radioactive seed directly into the tumor, a linear accelerator,which delivers streams of radiation to targeted areas and a CT simulator, which provides digital photographs of a tumor, allowing oncologists to develop a three-dimensional view.

The center is located on the first floor of Saint Mary's Center for Health at 645 N.
