Donald L. Campbell

A memorial service for Donald L. Campbell, 74, a Carson City resident for 15 years, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the St. Peter's Episcopal Church.

Mr. Campbell died July 21, 2005, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. He was born March 7, 1931, in York, Neb., to Lee Fulton and Effie Hawley Campbell.

He married Patricia Haythorn on June 8, 1957, in North Platte, Neb.

He graduated from Stromsburg High School in 1948 and attended the University of Nebraska. He graduated with honors from Arizona State University with a bachelor's degree in general studies. He later received a bachelor of foreign trade degree from the American Institute of Foreign Trade in Glendale, Ariz.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a Torpedoman's Mate 2nd Class in 1952.

While working in various manufacturing and engine companies, Mr. Campell lived in Indiana, Illinois, New York City, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, Brazil. He retired in 1988 from Stanadyne, Inc. as director of marketing and planning.

Mr. Campbell was a past member of the Society of Automotive Engineers, the American Management Association, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Elks Club. He served on the board of directors of the Association of Diesel Specialists and traveled to Russia representing the International Executive Service Corps.

He was past president of the Carson Sertoma Club and recipient of the Sertoman of the Year award, vice chairman of the Carson City Republican Central Committee, member of the Nevada Republican State Central Committee, board of directors of the Nevada FFA Foundation. He was a life member and officer of the Carson City Council of the Navy League of the United States and life member of the U.S. Submarine Veterans. He served on Sen. John Ensign's candidate selection committee for the U.S. Military Academies.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Shirley and infant brother Hollis.

Among his survivors are his wife of 48 years; daughter Judith Smock of Gilbert, Ariz.; daughters and sons-in-law Sandra and Gordon Walsh of Heath, Texas, and Catherine and Thomas Kerwin of Naperville, Ill.; grandchildren Ryan and Joseph Smock, Aaron and Caroline Walsh and Patrick and Emaline Kerwin.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
