YERINGTON - A bid for expansion of a Dayton wastewater treatment plant could be approved by the Lyon County Commissioners at today's commissioners meeting.
The low bid on the Phase II Rolling A wastewater treatment plant in Dayton was $14.9 million submitted by K.G. Walters Co. of Santa Rosa, Calif.
Mike Workman, Lyon County Utilities director, said the expansion would allow the plant, located off Fort Churchill Road in Dayton, to treat 1 million gallons per day, up from the current capacity of 250,000 gallons.
"The expansion was expedited to handle the projected growth in Dayton," Workman said.
The second-lowest bid was $16.3 million offered by PMC Corp.
The funding for the expansion will be handled through state revolving funds, administered by the Nevada Department of Environmental Protection, Workman said.
Workman said he expected the bid to be approved today.
"K.G. Walters did a great job as far as providing all the bonding, all the disadvantaged business requirements and everything they needed," he said.
Workman added that the expansion was expected to be completed in 12 to 16 months.
Also, as the Willowcreek General Improvement District, the commissioners are expected to approve a contract with Farr West Engineering for the design and construction management of its wastewater collection and treatment system.
Workman said the Willowcreek area of Lyon County has also experienced explosive growth.
The contract, worth $205,000 was negotiated with the United States Department of Agriculture on behalf of the county and will be funded by USDA.
