Carson City

Nuclear exhibit on display in Carson City

An exhibit of landscape photographs from Western states where there has been an ongoing history of atomic weapons, nuclear energy and military land use will be displayed at the Nevada Arts Council's Carson City office from Tuesday-Sept. 30, part of the Council's Office exhibition Series.

The series of photographs is a part of Altered Landscapes: The Carol Frank Buck Collection from the Nevada Museum of Art and is part of the Nevada Touring Initiative, a program of the Nevada Arts Council, and is supported by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Nevada Museum of Art.

The Nevada Arts Council is located at 716 N. Carson Street (intersection of Washington Street), Suite A, in Carson City and is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday. Call (775) 687-6680 for details.

Rummage sale to benefit troops

The American Legion High Desert Post 56 is seeking donations for its Support Your Troops Rummage Sale from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at SuperPawn 3816 Highway 50 East.

Proceeds from the sale go toward care packages for troops in Iraq and to feeding homeless veterans.

Mile High Jazz during hot August nights

Comma Coffee will present the Mile High Jazz Band in "Hot August Jazz," from 8-10 p.m. Tuesday in the Comma Coffee Courtyard, 312 S. Carson St.

General admission is $5 at the door; $4 for members of the Mile High Jazz Band Association, and free for age 18 and under. Swing Dance lessons 6 to 7:30 p.m. are $5 additional.

Nevada's past subject of library lecture

The Carson City Historical Society will be presenting "Reflections of Carson City" at 7 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Carson City Library, 900 N. Roop St.

This will be a double feature with the first lecture by Wally Earhart portraying Nevada's sixth governor, Frank Jarden Bell.

The second lecture will be by Ruby McFarland on the "History of Dayton."

It is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. The "Reflections" lectures series is sponsored by the Carson City Historical Society and Carson City Redevelopment.

Gardnerville

Douglas County Democrats to meet

The Douglas County Democratic Central Committee will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Overland Hotel and Basque Restaurant in Gardnerville.

Join your fellow Democrats for dinner before the meeting.

Special item for discussion will be the outdoor barbeque event at Round Hill Pines at Lake Tahoe on Aug. 28.
