Crushed finger and broken leg suffered at Lahontan Reservoir

LAKE ALPINE, CALIF: Reported to be still frozen as of last weekend.

BISHOP, CALIF. AREA: Gary Olson of the Bishop Creek Resorts (760-873-4484):

Intake No. 2: Still getting stocked heavily and producing lots of fish. Olive Woolly Bugger flies or mini-jigs are working well.

North Lake: The road is still closed, but the hike is well worth it. A 9-pound, 1-ounce rainbow and a 3-pound, 11-ounce rainbow, both taken by the same angler with a Trout Trap.

South Lake: Is now free of ice. Fishing has been fantastic. By the dam, the grasshopper Stinger has been incredible. Back by Boiler Cove, around the Inlet, nightcrawlers or red/gold Thomas Buoyant lures are bringing in lots of limits.

Bishop Creek: Still running high. Fishing has been very good with nightcrawlers or Salmon eggs.

One angler caught a 4-pound, 14-ounce rainbow and two 4-pound, 9-ounce rainbows using a Trout Trap and worm.

A 3-pound, 10-ounce rainbow with a Salmon egg and worm combo.

BISHOP, CALIF. AREA: Patti Apted of the Lake Sabrina Boat Landing (760-873-7425):

Sabrina Lake: This week, the fishing slowed down a bit. DF&G stocked the lake with pan-sized fish and quite a few tipping the scales over 3 pounds. Shore fishermen having luck in the coves around the lake. A 4.5 pound rainbow on Power Bait.

BLUE LAKES, CALIF: The road is reported to be still closed.

BLUE LAKES, NEV: The 2005 season will open on June 11.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR, CALIF: Rick Giser of Ken's Sporting Goods Store (760-932-7707): "The boaters are trolling with Fire Tiger Rapala lures. Catching fish but nothing big. Also trolling with flashers and nightcrawlers or Bikini Needlefish lures.

CAPLES LAKE, CALIF: Dave Kirby reported the lake still has some ice remaining on it. Doug Busey reported the general store will open this week.

CARSON RIVERS, CALIF:

East Carson River: The river is very high and muddy.

In addition, lots of river rafters were seen on Sunday.

West Carson River: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930) reported: All of the streams in the area are very high and muddy.

Ken Featch of Sacramento limited out with four rainbows on Salmon eggs and one rainbow on a Mepps spinner.

Silver Creek: Very high and muddy.

FEATHER RIVER AT ORVILLE, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero reported: Water is at 2,500 CFS. Catching nice King Salmon. Limits, some days. Using gold Flatfish lures and bouncing roe.

FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR, CALIF: Wiggin's Trading Post at Chilcoot, Calif. (530-993-4683): Trout fishing continues to be very consistent, whether trolling nightcrawlers or green "frog type" lures or bank fishing with worms and Power Bait. Turkey Point, Lunker Point, and Big Cove have been hot spots. Nice limits of 14-16 inches or better are reported. Windy condition makes for challenging fishing.

In addition, Jim and Eve Freed with sons JIm and Mike of Carson City caught several 2-3 pound rainbows while drifting Power Bait.

HOBART RESERVOIR, NEV: All access by way of Ash Canyon is restricted due to logging work on-going in that area.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR. CALIF: Dave Kirby reported that Jack Dauzat of South Lake Tahoe caught a 5-pound rainbow on a rainbow Power Worm.

Doug Busey reported a great Damsel hatch last Friday, with fishing, overall, being slow.

The free KIds' Fishing Derby will be held this Saturday.

KINNEY RESERVOIR, CALIF:

Kinney Reservoir: The Ebbett's Pass Highway is open, with huge snow drifts along the roadside. Most of the reservoir was still frozen on Sunday. There was only a little water showing around the edges at the dam.

Upper Kinney Lake: No report.

Lower Kinney Lake: No report.

KIRMAN (AKA CARMEN) LAKE, CALIF: Rick Giser reported they are getting a few but nothing big. The jiggers are doing the best. Most guys are getting 2-3 fish and the brookies are running 17-18 inches in length.

Note: This lake is about a 2 mile hike from the Sonora Pass Highway (S. R. 108).

KNOTT CREEK RESERVOIR, NEV: The 2005 season will open on June 11.

LAHONTAN RESERVOIR, NEV: MIssy Swain at Burke's Market at Silver Springs (775-577-2750) reported: "The reservoir has over 250,000 acre feet of water and it is still coming up. We have tons of mosquitoes, black gnats, caterpillars and butterflies, everywhere. We have not had a lot of fishermen this last week.

The big news is that my husband, Dowain, crushed a finger on his left hand while cutting firewood. The poor guy came in the house, laid down on the bed because of the pain, didn't feel well, got up, fainted, fell down and broke his right leg.

MARKLEEVILLE CREEK, CALIF: Very high and muddy.

ONION VALLEY RESERVOIR, NEV: The 2005 season will open on June 11.

RED LAKE CALIF: Dave Kirby reported the lake is ice free. Some fish were caught but the wind over the weekend hampered fishing success.

SACRAMENTO RIVER, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero of Outdoor Adventures Sport Fishing, Redding, Calif. (800-670-4448) reported:

Redding to Anderson: Water flows at 11,900 CFS.

Fly fishing for rainbow trout is great.

Catching and releasing a lot of rainbows, 2-6 pounds prior to release.

Using No. 14 or No. 16 Pheasant tail flies.

Micro May Fly patterns were working well.

Great bug hatch now.

SILVER LAKE, CALIF: Is reported to be ice free.

SHASTA LAKE, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero reported catching nice King Salmon (2-4 pounds). Fishing is good. 80+ feet deep, trolling with Shad pattern lures. Fishing the Digger Bay area.

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462) said: "The fishing has been very good. We've been catching our Mackinaw trout early in the morning and tagging and releasing the smaller ones (about 10 per trip). We're catching nice fish but nothing super big. The biggest was about 9 pounds.

I am trolling the deep-water area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades with live minnows or large Apex lures."

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552): "Agate Bay, Cal Neva Point and Dollar Point have been good to excellent, early in the morning.

We are trolling for Macks with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows at depths of 130-300 feet, along the edges of the drop-offs.

Our biggest was 4 days ago (Saturday), it was 10.5 pounds (31 inches).

LAKE TAHOE - South Shore: Gene St. Denis: "Fishing has been good to very good.

Best places have been Ski Run Mound and Camp Richardson.

We are trolling 150-250 feet deep with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows."

LAKE TAHOE - East Shore: Gene St. Denis: "Fishing has been good to very good.

We are trolling silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows at a depth of 150-250 feet.

Working the Cave Rock Shelf for Macks. Most are 1-4 pounds."

TOPAZ LAKE: Chuck Fields at the Topaz Lake Marina (775-266-3550) reported that there is not a lot of fishing due to all the wind. They are catching limits, but it is taking most of the day to do so. Using nightcrawlers at the south end. The north end is really quiet. The southwest side is the best for shore fishing. Nothing big being caught. The lake is really full and there is lots of wind (Monday morning).

TWIN LAKES, CALIF:

Upper Twin Lake: Annett's Mono Village (760-932-7071) (Ask for the boat house) reported: A 5-pound, 9-ounce rainbow on green Power Bait, a 5-pound, 5-ounce rainbow on a black Woolly Bugger fly and a 4-pound rainbow on rainbow Power Bait.

VIRGINIA LAKES, CALIF: The Virginia Lakes Resort reported Trumbull Lake is thawed and fish are hitting lures of any kind against the mountain.

The wind on Little Virginia has made a huge dent in the remaining ice and what is left (under 5 inches thick), and will be gone by morning. Fishing is starting to improve, rising to small midges, and taking lures and Power Bait. Some big Brookies have come out over the last two weeks.

Big Virginia is still in the Ice Station Zebra stage, and it will be a couple more weeks before we have any substantial water to fish, unless you like swimming in 42 degree water.

WALKER LAKE, NEV: Elmer Bull reported that there is about 2,600 acre feet of water entering the lake on a daily basis, during the peak of the runoff of the melt from the Winter snows. On Monday morning, the elevation of the lake was 3,394 feet.

Gene Phelps of Carson City reported catching several trout on lures, last Thursday from shore. The weather was very windy with large waves, so his fishing trip was cut short.

WALKER RIVERS, CALIF: Rick Giser reported:

East Walker: Is flowing at 833 CFS. They are hooking fish but they are hard to land due to the fast water.

West Walker: It is 2,400 CFS. It is very high and very muddy and really rolling.

Little Walker: Very high and very muddy.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR NEV: Mike at the Wild Horse Resort (775) 758-6472 said, "The fishing is really picking up. Last week was a good fishing week. On Saturday, we had three 17-inch and one 20-inch rainbows taken from shore with nightcrawlers. On Sunday, the rain came back. It is still freezing, up here, at nighttime. Dennis is getting better every day, and he is now working about 4-5 hours a day."
