Business leaders elected to board for Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada

E ight local business leaders have been elected to the Board of Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada. The 69-year-old nonprofit approved the elections of:

• Chris Cox, first vice-president, owner of Amplitude, LLC

• Carol Moore, second vice-president, vice president/relationship manager for U.S. Bank

• Mary Henry, third vice president, special events manager for John Ascuaga's Nugget

• Monica Limon, secretary, owner of M-Productions, Inc.

• Alice Mull, treasurer, vice president - private banker loan officer/securities licensed/relationship manager for Wells Fargo Bank

• Gail Conkey, member at large, director of business services for EDWAN

• Tony Harris, member-at-large

• Laurie Roberts, member at large, real estate agent for Comstock Real Estate

The 2005 elections were rounded out with Paige Elrod and Annelise Nelson being elected as GSSN Senior Girl Scout Representative.

GSSN CEO Linda L. Reed and Board President Sherri Dangberg credit Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada's success "to many committed board members, businesses, service clubs and financial supporters who believe in the values of Girl Scouting, and who realize that girls are our future and truly want to invest in them."

C arson City Raceway at Fuji Park will host a "Faster Pastor Showdown" July 30. All areas pastors, priests and rabbis are welcome.

Promoter/manager Jeb Onweiler recently addressed the Carson City Ministerial Fellowship inviting pastors to submit an application to participate. One participant per church is requested; entries are limited to 10 total.

The clergy will be racing on 80cc quads; there is a weight limit of 225 pounds.

"I think this is going to be a riot," Onweiler said.

Two qualifying heats will be held, with the top two riders transferring to the main event.

Safety gear such as a helmet and goggles are required; entry fee is $15 per person. The winner receives $200.

Shannon Marie Devereaux of Carson City has been named to the dean's list for the College of Education at University of Nevada, Reno.

Shannon is the daughter of Lora Devereaux and Frederick Droes. She is a 2003 graduate of Carson High School.
