According to a press release by the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit of the U.S. Forest Service, you are reminded that Forest Service officials of the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit as well as Douglas County Sheriff's officers will again be enforcing a ban on all forms of alcoholic beverages at Nevada Beach on July 4, 2005 from 10:00 a.m. to midnight.
All vehicles and individuals with day packs or ice chests entering the beach will be searched.
The alcohol prohibition only applies to the beach-picnic area, and does not apply to the campground.
Nevada Beach is one of the most popular areas to view the annual fireworks display, and attracts 10,000 people or more each year.
The temporary July 4th ban on alcoholic beverages at Nevada Beach began after 1998 to reduce the number of serious alcohol-related law enforcement incidents such as fights and vehicle accidents. Since that time, such incidents have significantly decreased at Nevada Beach.
Also, remember that the use of any form of fireworks is illegal on National Forest Lands at any time.
The Tahoe Basin Fire Danger Level is expected to be raised to HIGH by the weekend.
