Burn area closed to the public during logging

As part of Carson City's rehabilitation efforts for the Waterfall fire, the city has entered into a contract with Sierra Pacific Industries to remove primarily burned timber from the Ash Canyon and the Lakeview/Vicee Canyon area. Within areas of moderate topography, tractors will be used to load the timber into hauling trucks. For more remote, inaccessible areas, which is the majority of the terrain, helicopters will transport logs to prepared sites where the logs will be loaded into trucks. The entire operation is expected to take from eight to 10 weeks.

For the safety of Carson City residents and the employees and subcontractors of Sierra Pacific Industries, access into the Waterfall fire area is limited to authorized personnel only. For information, call Juan Guzman at 887-2115, ext. 1004; or e-mail jguzman@ci.carson-city.nv.us.
