Flowers or snow, which do you think we want?

What's this while stuff again? Didn't we already do this this year? Bah humbug, and other appropriate words ... we already know "we need the water" ... what we really want is to keep seeing crocuses, forsythia and daffodils, because we were getting used to the idea that "spring has sprung" ... then apples, plums and flowers ... what a concept ...

Sheriff Kenny Furlong tells us that the shootings in the Atlanta courtroom served as a "reminder call" to all law enforcement agencies to review their security practices. While there will always be a "wild card" that you can't control, you can use something like this to become more vigilant and aware ... Carson City is one of the places that a known violent or disruptive person does not have to be in the courtroom, but can be arraigned in a secure area in front of a television camera ... and a continued "thank you" to all our law enforcement personnel for putting their lives on the line every day to protect us ...

Why do Carson City 911 cell phone calls go through Reno (then you're transferred back to Carson)? You'd think with all the technology out there, they could figure out how to ring in the closest dispatcher ... and we're sure the Reno dispatch center would be pleased ...

Carolyn is off to a conference in Las Vegas for a couple of days this week (or to drink gin with Oscar Goodman), but before she went she indulged in a pedicure at Spa Helios ... the regular pedicure lady was out, so her niece, Michelle Olsen (of TJ Olsen fame ... he's the one who won first place in the science fair at Fremont, and later took second in region ... way to go, TJ), had to do it.

Michelle hadn't done a pedicure in years and was quite taken aback at some of the squishy, gooey things she had to use on the Big C's feet (or should that be the C's big feet?) ... nevertheless, she got it done and did it well, and now Carolyn is off to the big city down south on fluffy toes ... nice work, Michelle ...

And speaking of nice work ... Maizie has had a glitch in her TV set for some time, and got tired of wiggling the wires or bashing it on the top to change channels ... she finally called a TV repairman and got Jeff Niedig of Jeff's TV & VCR Repair (246-7254) ... not only was he on time, but he was polite, efficient, reasonable, and got it fixed in no time ... he also does stereos and microwaves, etc. and has been in business here for several years ... these things are good to know ... thanks, Jeff ...

Andrew Harvey sent us the following on "stress management" which we thought were entirely appropriate during several times in our lives: "Picture yourself near a stream ... Birds are softly chirping in the cool morning air ... no one but you knows your secret place ... you are in total seclusion from the hectic place we call 'the world.' The soothing sound of a gentle waterfall fills the air with a cascade of serenity ... the water is crystal clear. You can easily make out the face of the person you are holding under the water ... see? You're smiling already." Ahhhhh ... priceless ...

Bryt Lewis is on the Carson High School JV baseball team ... Maizie is watching his career carefully because they have a deal going ... when he's a major leaguer, he's going to let her have front-row seats at his games ... goooooooooo, Bryt ... should only be a few more years ... she can hardly wait ...

Ellen and Joe Walls are going to Ireland in May ... Joe explains very carefully that he wanted to go when the dollar was taking a beating from the Euro ... that way they'll be too broke to shop ... good thinking, Joe ... but what does Ellen say?

Two of the men in Raley's meat department, Thomas and Glen, are the nicest ... M was shopping there, but got very tired (what with no sleep from the @#%$& sling she's wearing) ... Thomas rushed out to get her a chair to sit on, while Glen went and got her a riding cart with which to finish her shopping ... and all she said was, "I'm really tired" ... they stopped what they were doing and came to her rescue ... now that's service "above and beyond" ... thanks, guys ...

Also, Nancy Adams called and said that she had also had rotator cuff surgery and that she couldn't sleep either ... until ... she figured out that if you had a glass or two of wine before bedtime ... who cares? (draw appreciative grin in here _________)

We were wondering ... why can't you take car insurance off on your taxes? Seems that would be a nice thing to do ... and while we're on the subject, why don't you have to show that you've paid for a year's car insurance at the time you reup your registration every year? That way, you'd have no uninsured drivers ... just a thought ...

Virginia Readhead at the 44U salon has been doing Maizie's hair while she's unable to do it herself ... so you can all thank her for keeping M presentable for the past four weeks ... thanks, Virginia ...

Nevada just didn't have the guns against Illinois ... but they still did us proud ... so, next year ... goooooooooooo Wolf Pack!

In the basketball vein, Ken Fraser strikes again ... "One day my housework-challenged husband decided to wash his sweatshirt. Seconds after he stepped into the laundry room, he shouted to me, "What setting do I use on the washing machine?"

"It depends," I replied, "what does it say on your shirt?"

He yelled back, "University of Nevada." Hmmmmm ... and they talk about blondes ... .

He also sent, "It's just too hot to wear clothes today," the man said as he stepped out of the shower. "Honey, what do you think the neighbors would think if I mowed the lawn like this?"

"That I married you for your money," she replied." Tch, tch, tch ...

Happy Birthday today to Maizie's nephew, Brian Whalen, Jr. "Let him eat cake ... "

And remember, "When winter comes ... can spring be far behind?" Let's hope so ...
