Carson City

Experimental Aircraft Association fly-in Friday

The Carson City Chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association Sierra Chapter 403, will host its second fly-in Friday through Sunday at the Carson City Airport.

All types of aircraft are welcome; however, the fly-in is primarily designed for RV-type experimental aircraft that are sold in kit form and assembled by the individual owners. Judging will take place and awards given in several categories including workmanship, paint quality, interior design, engine installation, etc.

The Experimental Aircraft Building is at the south entrance of the airport just east of the fire station on East Graves Lane.

A pancake breakfast and lunch will be available on Saturday for a nominal donation. The public is welcome.

Holocaust Remembrance Day held in Carson area

Yom Ha-Shoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday at Temple Bat Yam, in South Lake Tahoe.

Rabbi Jonathan Frierish is presenting a special discussion "Memorials and Victimhood, seeking a balance in contemporary Jewish remembrances of the Shoah-Holocaust."

There is also a Holocaust Memorial Lecture at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Carson City BLM Office on Morgan Mill Road that includes a lecture by Dr. Viktoria Hertling, of UNR's Center for Holocaust, Genocide, and Peace Studies.

Rally to show support for troops on Friday

The American Legion High Desert Post 56 will hold a Rally for the Troops from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday in front of the Legislative Plaza, corner of Fifth and South Carson streets.

All veterans and residents are welcome to bring an American flag or any banner in support of our troops in Iraq.

Walkers & volunteers still needed for MS Walk

Volunteers are still needed for a few hours on Saturday morning for the MS Walk at Camp Richardson, at Lake Tahoe. Some serve refreshments or cheer along the route; others distribute goodie bags at rest stations and some help with light clean up after the walk. There is a place for everyone's time and talents. It's a great opportunity for scouts and youths seeking community service work. Those interested in lending a hand are asked to show up at the camp off Highway 89 by 8 a.m. Registration for the walk is from 8-9 a.m. and the walk is from 9 a.m.-noon.

Gardnerville

Merchants sought for Heritage Run Benefit

Vendors and crafters are wanted for the Heritage Run Benefit to be held May 21-22 at Heritage Park in Gardnerville.

Proceeds will benefit Northern Nevada affiliates of the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Weekend events include a poker run, blood drives, raffles, barbecue, booths, family games, live music by Crazy Texas Gypsies, Dejablues, Trey Stone and Wicker Box and the raffle of a 2005 Harley-Davidson Fatboy.
