Cutthroat at Indian Creek Res., Northern Pike at Davis Lake

BIG SPRINGS RESERVOIR, NEV: The 2005-2006 season will open on May 14.

BISHOP CREEK AREA, CALIF: Patti Apted of the Lake Sabrina Boat Landing (760-873-7425) reported:

Sabrina Lake: For those hearty souls, the trek to the back, natural lake produced stringers of pan-sized fish, through the many holes in the ice. The ice is getting thinner and thinner. It's a bit dangerous to be walking on the lake, now.

BLUE LAKES, NEV: The 2005 season will open on June 11.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR, CALIF: Rick Giser of Ken's Sporting Goods Store (760-932-7707): "Trollers with flasher blades and nightcrawlers are doing the best for rainbows, up to 4.5 pounds."

CAPLES LAKE, CALIF: Doug Busey of Douglas Count reported that the lake still has an ice covering with some open water showing. People are advised to consider the ice as dangerous and to stay off.

CARSON RIVERS, CALIF:

East Carson River: Brad Davis at the Carson River Resort (877-694-2229) reported: Not a lot going on with this weather that we are having. The river has been high and muddy and there have not been very many fishermen. Ken Wells caught a 3.5 pound rainbow.

West Carson River: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930) reported: "It was 34 degrees and we had a blizzard for about a half hour this morning (Monday). This weather is crazy!"

DAVIS LAKE, CALIF: Steve Soulam of Carson City caught a 4-pound, 6-ounce Northern Pike, while trolling a floating Rapala lure on Saturday, April 30.

Jim Heath of Carson City caught a 3-pound, 9-ounce Northern Pike while trolling with Soulam on that same day.

Many fishermen last Saturday: Bait fishermen, spincasters, float tubers, chest waders and lots of boats. Very slow fishing. Weather was cold and windy.

EAGLE LAKE, CALIF: The 2005 season will open on May 28.

FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR, CALIF: Wiggin's Trading Post at Chilcoot, Calif. (530-993-4683): Very good with partial limits of 14-16 inch average. Troll with nightcrawlers, frog lures or Woolly Bugger flies. Power Bait is working well, too.

Fishing in streams is a little slow.. Water is running high after storms. A few nice fish being caught.

HINKSON SLOUGH, NEV: Elmer Bull of NDOW reported that the fishing is "So So." A few fish being caught but overall, it is hot real not right now. The best action has been with gold Kastmaster lures.

HOBART RESERVOIR, NEV: Opened for the 2005 season on May 1. All access by way of Ash Canyon is restricted due to logging work on-going in that area.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR. CALIF: Dave Kirby reported:

Daniel Rodgers of Gardnerville caught a 6-pound Cutthroat on orange Power Bait on Saturday.

Iris Biggs of Dayton caught a 4-pound Cutthroat on rainbow Power Bait on Friday.

The reservoir is scheduled to be planted this week with the first plant of the year.

LAHONTAN RESERVOIR, NEV: Missy Swain at Burke's Market at Silver Springs (775-577-2750) reported: "There were people crazy enough to be out fishing this last weekend, but not during that rain. We had almost two solid days of rain.

They are catching 3-4 pound Walleye in front of Beach No. 4

The Crappie are biting at Fisherman's Point.

Everything is beginning to finally wake up.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Doug Ouellette at the Gilly Sporting Goods Store in Sparks (358-6113): The same kind of action as last week. Both the South end and the North End of "The Nets" are running hot and cold: Hot for one hour, cold for the next.

The fly fishermen are using bead-head Nymphs or Popcorn beetles.

There were a couple of nice fish caught.

RED LAKE CALIF: Doug Busey reported that it still has an ice covering with some open water showing. People are advised to consider the ice as dangerous and to stay off.

SACRAMENTO RIVER, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero of Outdoor Adventures Sport Fishing, Redding, Calif. (800-670-4448) reported: Same as last week:

Redding to Anderson: Water release is 6,000 CFS.

Fly fishing for rainbows is good.

Catching and releasing a lot of nice rainbows, 5-8 pounds.

Drifting from Redding to Anderson.

Using No. 14 or No. 16 Pheasant tail flies.

Also Micro May Fly patterns working well.

SILVER LAKE, CALIF: Reported to still have an ice covering with some open water showing. People are advised to consider the ice as dangerous and to stay off.

SHASTA LAKE, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero reported picking up some nice King Salmon (2-6 pounds) and a few rainbows. Fishing is excellent. Limits. 60-80 feet deep, trolling with Shad pattern lures.

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462) said: "We've been catching our Mackinaw trout early in the morning and tagging and releasing the smaller ones.

We're catching nice fish but nothing super big.

I am trolling the deep-water area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades with live minnows or large Apex lures."

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552): "Cal Nevada Point is the best place. The bite is excellent, early in the morning.

We are trolling for Macks with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows at depths of 140-280 feet, along the edges of the drop-offs."

LAKE TAHOE - South Shore: Gene St. Denis: "Fishing is slow.

Trolling from Ski Run to Camp Richardson.

We are trolling 170-280 feet deep with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows.

Rainbows and browns are showing up at Emerald Bay and Eagle Point."

LAKE TAHOE - East Shore: Gene St. Denis: "Fishing is slow.

We are trolling silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows at a depth of 170-280 feet.

Toplining has also been poor to good, dependent on the day, for mostly small Mackinaw and a few rainbows.

The Topliners are trolling in 10-20 feet of water with silver/black, No. 11 Rapala lures or No. 9 Count Down Rapala lures.

Rainbows and browns are showing up at Logan Shoals, Zephyr Buoy and Deadman's Point."

TOPAZ LAKE: Chuck Fields at the Topaz Lake Marina (775-266-3550) reported the shore fishing continues to be somewhat slow but they are catching limits from boats.

Best shore fishing is down at the south end or on the east side, past the county campground.

Boats are trolling about 10 feet deep and catching 1.5 pound rainbows with gold/silver flasher blades and either a Rapala lure or a nightcrawler.

Terri from Fernley caught a 5-pound, 1 1/8-ounce Eagle Lake-strain rainbow trout on Saturday at the south end with a nightcrawler.

TWIN LAKES, CALIF:

Upper Twin Lake: Annett's Mono Village (760-932-7071) (Ask for the boat house) reported: A 4-pound, 10-ounce rainbow on a Kastmaster lure and a 4.5 pound rainbow on a black Woolly Bugger fly.

VIRGINIA LAKES, CALIF: Rick Giser reported that they are still frozen and the ice fishermen are catching brook trout at Little Virginia Lake.

WALKER LAKE, NEV: Gene Phelps of Carson City reported catching and releasing "a bunch" of fish, last week, while spincasting in waders. Best success was early in the day with a rainbow colored lure, a silver Phoebe lure and a green/black dot TOR-P-DO lure.

WALKER RIVERS, CALIF:

East Walker: Rick Giser said the fishing was a little on the tough side. They are catching fish but having to work for them. A fly fisherman caught, photographed and released an 8.5 pound rainbow (26 inches long and 18 inches in girth) on a size No. 18 WD-40 fly.

West Walker: Rick Giser reported that it was still high and dirty.

Little Walker: Muddy.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR NEV: Mike at the Wild Horse Resort (775) 758-6472 said, "Fishing is a little slow due to the weather. It is raining today (Monday) and we are supposed to get some snow later. The water is about one foot from going over the top of the old dam."
