Sophomores at area high schools polished their job interviewing skills in March through a program offered by the Work Readiness Committee sponsored by the Northern Nevada Human Resources Association, a chapter of the National Society for Human Resources Management.
Organizer Heather Burkhardt calls upon the association's 250 members each year to visit the Sparks and Reno high schools for a full day of student interviews.
They also help teach resume writing through the English classes.
The association conducts similar sessions in September at the University of Nevada, Reno, College of Business.
The group primarily targets 10th grade classes because, at age 16, sophomores are just heading out into the job market, says Burkhardt.
Plus, many juniors and seniors have set themselves goals that will require a personal interview with college admissions boards.
