Hess Microgen, a manufacturer in Mound House, will outsource manufacturing of its co-generation product to a company in Illinois, says a spokesperson at the Nevada location.About 15 to 20 jobs may be affected.
While production shuts down at the Mound House facility, the research and development and the service tech operations support will remain.
Hess Microgen is a subsidiary of Amerada Hess, Inc., with manufacturing headquarters in New Jersey and corporate headquarters in New York.
Hess had planned to sell off its sheet metal manufacturing equipment piecemeal, says former employee Mark Wynar, who saw a greater potential. He bought the whole package including customers.
In April he opened the operation as an independent company, Sierra Precision Systems in Mound House.
With more than 25 years experience in the industry and four employees, he says the challenge is getting the word out to potential customers.
