A graveside service for Rex Durwood Barrington, 75, a Hilmar, Calif., resident for the past four years, will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Hills-Ferry Cemetery in Newman, Calif.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Hillview Funeral Chapel in Newman.

Mr. Barrington died May 24, 2005, in Pleasanton, Calif. He was born Dec. 12, 1929.

He lived in Newman, Calif., for more than 20 years before moving to Carson City, where he lived for 10 year before moving to Hilmar.

Mr. Barrington was a self-employed law enforcement retailer for 35 years. In Newman, he owned a machine shop and a gun shop. While living in Carson City, he owned a gun shop that supplied local law enforcement. He was a member of the Hills-Ferry Masonic Lodge, was a Shriner, a member of the NRA and the Scottish Rite Lodge and a past member of the Newman Moose Lodge. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He served in the U.S. Army and Air Force during the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo in 1992; and great-grandaughter Breanna Silveira in 2002.

Among his survivors are his daughters Karen Silveira of Hilmar, Nancy Barrington of Newman and Debbie Downey of Merced, Calif.; brother, Hurd of Newman; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and son-in-law, Joe Silveira of Hilmar.
