View Mars at college observatory

The "Red Planet" Mars is in prime position for viewing at the Jack C. Davis Observatory. Visitors are invited to the observatory at Western Nevada Community College on Saturday to view Mars and the night sky. Several telescopes will be available for public use, and evening hours will be extended to accommodate visitors.

For the best look at Mars, visitors should arrive after 8:30 p.m.

Annual Craftique Show this weekend

St. Paul's Lutheran Family Church, 1201 N. Saliman Road, is holding its annual Craftique Show, from noon-7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. Hand-crafted items by local artists will be available.

Call now to sign up for city fall cleanup

Beginning Monday through Nov. 10, Carson City Public Works will be picking up yard debris consisting of leaves, weeds, and limbs. Leaves and yard debris must be placed in plastic bags and tied securely. Limbs must be bundled in lengths no longer than 6 feet long and weighing no more than 60 pounds.

Loose debris should not be swept onto the sidewalk area or into the street or gutter.

Call Carson City Public Works at 887-2355 to place your name on the list for pick-up. Please provide your name, street address, phone number, and type of material to be picked up.

New-mentor training set for Saturday

Training for mentors on Introduction to Mentoring and Mentoring When a Parent is Incarcerated will be offered from 1 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the Ron Wood Family Resource Center, 212 E. Winnie Lane. The Softer Side strikes a tune for seniors Saturday night

The Carson City Senior Citizens Center will hold a community dance from 6-10 p.m. Saturday at the center, 911 Beverly Drive.

Free dance lessons are held from 6-7, dancing with live music by The Softer Side is from 7-10 p.m. Cost is $6 per person for the dance. There is also a no-host wine bar, refreshments available.

Animal group hosts dog adoptions Saturday

"Thankful for a Home" DAWG dog adoption event will be from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at Petco in the Carson Valley Plaza, Topsy Lane.

Douglas Animal Welfare group members will help you select a dog companion who will help make your house a loving home for Thanksgiving and all the holidays hereafter.
