The wind could be just as gusty today, following a blustery Wednesday that shut down one highway and forced state officials to post wind warnings on another.

A portion of Highway 50 East in Lyon County was closed about 10:45 a.m. after blowing sand caused zero visibility along the road from Stagecoach to the Ramsey Weeks Cutoff in Silver Springs.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Blair Harkleroad said there was one accident with minor injury on the highway before the closure.

In Washoe Valley, Highway 395 was under a wind warning with campers and trailers prohibited for 11 miles, 14 miles south of Reno to Carson City.

The greater Reno-Carson City-Minden area was placed under a high-wind warning by the National Weather Service at 12:49 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service, wind gusts of 63 mph and 59 mph were measured in Gardnerville.

Washoe Valley winds were measured at 32 mph, gusting to 46 mph.

Wind measurements were not available for Carson City.

A high wind warning is issued when winds are blowing at sustained speeds of at least 40 mph with gusts of 58 mph or more. These can lead to property damage and difficult driving conditions for high-profile vehicles.

Today, expect mostly cloudy skies with southwest winds 10 to 15 mph increasing to 20 to 30 mph in the afternoon. Gusts of up to 45 mph could be expected in the afternoon. There's also a light chance of showers in the afternoon. Snow level will reach 6,000 to 6,500 feet and the temperatures should reach 44 to 54 degrees.
