A suspect wanted for attempted murder in a Fernley shooting remains at large while the victim survived surgery over the weekend at Washoe Medical Center for a gunshot wound to the face, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office reported Monday.

Lyon County investigators are still seeking Dustin Fryling, 22, who is suspected of shooting David Hightower on Friday morning. The incident took place inside a single-wide trailer on Mesa Drive where Hightower lives.

Capt. Allen Veil, field services commander for the Lyon County Sheriff's Office, said Fryling contacted family members on Friday after the shooting. He would not reveal the substance of the conversation except to say no information came from the conversation that could aid police in finding the suspect.

Authorities said Fryling is considered armed and dangerous.

Veil said it is also not known if Fryling fled in a vehicle or on foot. Earlier, law enforcement believed Fryling took a vehicle from the Black Jack Motors car lot a short distance from the shooting scene. Detectives have been unable to positively determine if a vehicle is missing from the lot, said Veil.

"What we were told is they don't have an accurate accounting of what's on the lot," he said Monday. "He may have taken a vehicle and he may have left on foot."

Fryling's father works at the small car dealership as a manager or supervisor and is cooperating with authorities, Veil said earlier.

A warrant has been issued charging Fryling with attempted murder.
