A Nevada Highway Patrol cruiser was struck early Thursday morning while the trooper was investigating two non-injury accidents on the Mount Rose HIghway.
Trooper Mike Walsh, a 28-year veteran of the highway patrol, was outside his vehicle when it was hit by a sports utility vehicle.
Walsh was not injured.
A fourth vehicle, also traveling the same highway, spun out of control after hitting a section of guardrail.
The four accidents all happened between 6 and 6:40 a.m.
Authorities listed frost and driving too fast for the conditions as the causes of the accidents; however, no citations had been issued.
The Washoe County Sheriff's Office will be investigating the accident involving the trooper.
Trooper Chuck Allen said motorists should take heed and slow down on icy roads and always wear a seat belt.
Highway emergencies can be reported directly to the Department of Public Safety Communications Center by dialing *NHP from a cellular phone.
