Misfits present "Dexter Done Wrong"

The Misfits Theater Group presents "The Ballad of Dayton Diggins, or Dexter Done Wrong," a melodrama about a local assayer who replaces claimants' gold with iron pyrite, or fool's gold.

The play, written by Tony Thornburg of Dayton and his daughter, Cindi Wylen, will be performed at Mia's Restaurant, 65 Pike St. in Dayton at 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday. Thornburg is also the director.

The performance will take place upstairs in the ballroom of the Odeon Hall.

Christmas craft fair and book sale set

Dayton's 18th Christmas Craft and Gift Faire and Book Sale will be from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. today and Saturday at Dayton High School.

The Faire features more than 70 booths of crafts and gift items for the holiday season, a silent auction, great food, door prizes from each vendor, Santa and Mrs. Claus, the largest book sale of the year, children's crafts, entertainment by a variety of dancers, singers, musicians and gymnasts and live radio feeds each day.

The sale is put on by the Dayton Valley Library.

A community blood drive is set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in Mound House at the Old Time Cafe, 10196 Highway 50 E.

Commodities will be distributed for Silver Springs area residents from 8-10 a.m. today at the Silver Springs Senior Center, 1050 Pyramid St.

Virginia City

"Arsenic" at Piper's this weekend

"Arsenic and Old Lace," will be performed by the Virginia City Theater Muckers at Piper's Opera House at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

This production, part of the Virginia City Theater Mucker's 20th season, is directed by Bill Beeson and produced by the Comstock Arts Council with support from the Nevada Arts Council.

Light refreshments will be served and there will be a cash bar.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students. Group and family rates are available. Cal Piper's Opera House at 775-847-0433 for reservations and information.

Virginia City chamber mixer set

The Virginia City Gold Hill Chamber of Commerce will hold their mixer from 4-8 p.m. today at the offices of Comstock Real Estate Services, 476 North B St., Virginia City.

Food and an open bar with beer, wine and soft drinks will be provided.

Pianist Squeek LaVake will perform along with other entertainers.

Shurz

Paiute rededication ceremony planned

Descendants of Jack Wilson, otherwise known as Wovoka, invite the native community and supporters at large to a public rededication ceremony at the gravesite of their ancestor Wovoka, the Paiute Prophet and Messiah.

The rededication ceremony will be held at the Shurz Cemetery at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Wovoka, (1858-1932) a Northern Paiute, holds a special place in Native American history as the receiver of a vision in 1887.

In this vision, Wovoka was told to teach his people to love each other, live in peace, work hard and not to steal. The vision revealed a ceremony which became known as the Ghost Dance.

The four day Ghost Dance was popular throughout the Indian world, sparking a cultural revival among the indigenous people throughout the continent.

A potluck celebration will be held afterward in the Community Hall. Meat will be provided by the Walker River Paiute Tribe Cultural Committee.

There is no charge for admission. The Shurz Cemetery and Community Hall are located in Shurz, a two-hour drive south of Reno.
