Large cutthroat trout caught at Pryamid Lake

BLUE LAKES AREA, CALIF: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930): "Beautiful weather, but not much fishing going on. There's hardly any fishermen. It's really super quiet, up here (Woodfords). Happy Thanksgiving to you."

CAPLES LAKE, CALIF: Dave Kirby: "Beautiful weather, this last weekend, but not much fishing going on. We had a couple of fishermen tell us they caught a couple of fish, but no details."

DAVIS LAKE, CALIF: Doug Ouellette at The Gilly Sporting Goods Store in Sparks (358-6113) reported, "Fly fishermen are still using Snails and Blood Midges from float tubes and boats at Jenkins Point and Camp Five Point on the west side of the lake. The fish are cruising past those two points."

FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR, CALIF: Dick Biggs and Wally Hesse of Carson City trolled last week and caught 8 rainbow trout, up to about 2.5 pounds.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: George Molino of the Pyramid Lake Store (775-476-0555) reported: "The fishing has been OK. The water temp is now 51 degrees.

They are catching fish with the shore fishing getting better, now.

There was an 11.5 pounder caught on the south side of "The Nets by a fly fisherman.

Our boat (Pyramid Lake Charters) has been averaging about a dozen fish a trip. The other day, we caught 16 and the largest was 6.5 pounds.

The boats are fishing all over the lake. They are catching more fish than the shore fishermen but that is going to change soon.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Doug Ouellette reported, "Pyramid is starting to happen! There was an 8-pounder yesterday (Monday) and another 30-incher on Friday.

The fish are moving into the shallower water.

Fly fishing at "The North Nets" is awesome with the white-foam with Chartreuse body Popcorn Bettles. Also try Purple/Black or Red/Black or Drab-Olive flies.

Bring your fish in to be registered and photographed for a drawing at the end of the season for a fly fishing rod and reel combo worth more than $800."

SACRAMENTO RIVER, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero of Outdoor Adventures Sport Fishing, Redding, Calif. (800-670-4448):

Redding to Anderson: Water flows at 5,500 CFS.

King Salmon: Is fair in the Balls Ferry area. Fishing is getting tougher, water is low and clear. Catching 2-6 salmon per boat.

Using Flatfish lures, wrapped with Sardine wrap.

Some days are better than others. Rain is needed to bring up new, brighter salmon.

SILVER LAKE, CALIF: Linda Thorbjornson at Kay's Silver Lake Resort (209-258-8598): "The weather is gorgeous. There are some people out fishing, but nothing exciting is happening.

We are waiting for the snow to arrive, then we will have all kinds of cross-country skiers and snowshoers. We don't get too many ice fishermen here, because they have to walk quite a ways to get to the lake.

Have a nice Thanksgiving and don't eat too much turkey."

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462): "The fishing has been very good on every trip.

We've been catching our Mackinaw trout early in the morning and tagging and releasing the smaller ones.

We're catching lots of fish, but nothing super big. Our biggest was about 7 pounds, last week.

I am trolling the deep-water area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades with live minnows or large Apex lures.

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552): "Agate Bay and Dollar Point have been good, early in the mornings.

We are trolling for Macks with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows at depths of 160-300 feet, along the edges of the drop-offs."

LAKE TAHOE - South Shore: Gene St. Denis: "Fishing has been good to excellent at Ski Run Mound, Ski Run Shelf and Camp Richardson.

We are trolling 150-300 feet deep with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows.

There are still about 100 Kokanee Salmon a day, traveling up Taylor Creek to spawn.

LAKE TAHOE - East Shore:

Gene St. Denis: "Picking up rainbows (1-4 pounds), trolling at Logan Shoals and Deadman's Point. Shore fishermen are picking up rainbows from the Cave Rock Landing.

TRUCKEE RIVER, NEV: Doug Ouellette: "It is cooling off, considerably. Drift Stone Flies or Nymphs in the deeper holes in the downtown area of Reno. I got a 3.5 pound rainbow the other day on a little No. 14 Stone Fly."

WALKER LAKE, NEV: Good shore fishing at the far north end of the lake, near the boundary of the indian reservation, for Lahontan cutthroat trout, up to 4 pounds. They are fishing in chest waders and spincasting with various colored No. 2 TOR-P-DO lures. Lots of shore fishermen in this area, and their best fishing is early in the mornings.

Trolling is good north of Sportsmen's Beach with silver flasher blades and light colored lures in shallow water.

Shore fishing on the south end of Walker Lake is rated as: Slow, slow, slow.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR, NEV: Dennis Dunn at the Wild Horse Resort (775) 758-6472: "It's gorgeous, up here. It was 7 degrees this morning (Monday).

The shore fishing is excellent for nice, big trout.

They are catching easy limits of fish that are running 2.3 to 2.7 pounds each.

The shore fishermen are using white marshmallows, rainbow Power Bait, dark green or black/red dot lures.

I haven't seen too many boats lately.

Don't eat too much turkey for Thanksgiving, just remember that old saying that you are what you eat."
