A 29.5-inch brown trout at Tahoe's east shore

BLUE LAKES AREA, CALIF: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930): "The road to Blue Lakes is closed now. The gate is shut and locked for the winter. There have been a few snowmobilers in there, already."

CAPLES LAKE, CALIF: Dave Kirby reported that the lake is icing over, but the ice is still way too thin to walk on.

DAVIS LAKE, CALIF: Doug Ouellette at The Gilly Sporting Goods Store in Sparks (358-6113) reported, "Has slowed down with the cold weather. Fish in the afternoons, when it warms up. Try Jenkins Point and Camp Five Point on the west side."

EAGLE LAKE, CALIF: Closes on Saturday, Dec. 31.

FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR, CALIF: Wiggin's Trading Post at Chilcoot, Calif. (530-993-4683): Last weekend was a a busy weekend of fishing. Some reported luck, others not. Generally, trout have been 14-16 inches.

Biting at Dam, Turkey Point and Lunker boat launch.May be ice along the edges.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR, CALIF: Dave Kirby reported some ice forming, but that there is still lots of open water.

A couple of shore fishermen caught a couple of rainbow, the largest was 2.5 pounds. They were using worms.

The reservoir will receive its last fish plant of the year in the next couple of weeks.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Doug Ouellette reported, "it is about the same as it was last week.

There was a 31-incher caught this last week at the North Nets by a fly fisherman.

The fly fishermen are catching about 1 fish every 45 minutes at "The Nets."

They are using white-foam with Chartreuse body Popcorn Beetles. Also try Purple/Black or Red/Black or Drab-Olive flies.

Fly fishermen are doing well on the east side of the lake.

The spincasters are picking up fish at The Block House, Spider Point, Pelican Point, The Cattleguard and Warrior Point. They are using green or Fire Tiger lures.

Not much being reported by the trollers."

RED LAKE, CALIF: Dave Kirby reported that the lake is icing over, but the ice is still way too thin to walk on.

Redding to Anderson: Water flows at 5,000 CFS.

King Salmon: Is good in the Balls Ferry area. Late Fall Salmon are starting to arrive.

Fishing for big bright late Fall King Salmon has continued to pick up from the Balls Ferry Barge Hole area (Anderson) all the way to Chico.

Due to the recent rains, fishing had slowed due to high murky water.

Anglers can expect a fish per rod for late fall Kings, averaging 15-25 pounds, with trophy Kings tipping the scale at 30-40 pounds.

Best action can be expected on sardine wrapped Kwikfish lures in silver or gold patterns. Look for best action early to mid-mornings or late afternoon/early evenings.

SILVER LAKE, CALIF: Mona at Kay's Silver Lake Resort (209-258-8598):reported that the lake is icing over, but the ice is still way too thin to walk on.

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462): "The fishing has been very good on every trip.

We've been catching our Mackinaw trout early in the morning and tagging and releasing the smaller ones.

We're catching lots of fish, but nothing super big.

I am trolling the deep-water area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades with live minnows or large Apex lures.

LAKE TAHOE - South Shore: Gene St. Denis: "Fishing has been good to excellent at Ski Run Mound, Ski Run Shelf and Camp Richardson.

We are trolling 150-300 feet deep with silver Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows.

LAKE TAHOE - East Shore:

Gene St. Denis: "They are picking up rainbows (1-4 pounds), trolling flashers and minnows at Logan Shoals and Deadman's Point. The shore fishermen are picking up rainbows from the Cave Rock Landing.

On Tuesday, I went out alone and trolled in front of Elk Point at a depth of 25-40 feet. I was trolling with rainbow-pattern Bomber Long A lures.

At about 3 p.m., I caught a 29.5 inch (9.5 pounds) brown.

Earlier, I had caught and released a 22-inch and a 33-inch Mackinaw at that same location."

TRUCKEE RIVER, NEV: Doug Ouellette: "The Truckee River is really cold. Try fishing the deeper holes in the afternoons, when the temperature warms up.

WALKER LAKE, NEV: Shore fishing continues to be fair-to-good at the north end of the lake, near the boundary of the Indian reservation.

Fishermen in chest waders are catching Lahontan cutthroat trout, up to 4 pounds.

Spincasting with various colored No. 2 TOR-P-DO lures.

Trolling is good to excellent north of Sportsmen's Beach with silver flasher blades and light colored lures in shallow water.

Shore fishing on the south end of the lake is rated as improving.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR, NEV: Dennis Dunn at the Wild Horse Resort (775) 758-6472: "We are basking in the sunlight today (Tuesday). It only got down to 6 above, last night. The night before (Sunday), it was -18 degrees.

The reservoir is completely froze over.

I would not recommend going out on the ice until we have had a couple more below zero nights.

The ice is still a bit thin.
