A memorial service for Harvey G. Thiel, 82, a Minden resident for the past 15 years, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at FitzHenry's Chapel of Faith.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Red Lodge Cemetery in Red Lodge, Mont.
Mr. Thiel died Nov. 29, 2005, at his home. He was born Jan. 2, 1923, in Red Lodge to Earl and Ada Sproul Thiel.
He received a bachelor of arts degree from Rocky Mountain College and a master's degree in vocational education.
He married Helen "Cissy" Thiel on Aug. 3, 1944, in Salinas, Calif.
Before moving to Minden, he lived in Manassas, Va.
Mr. Thiel worked for the U.S. Department of Education Indian Programs until his retirement. He was a member of the National Cutting Horse Association and the Pacific Coast Cutting Horse Association.
He served in the U.S. Navy in the submarine service and a lieutenant in the Army Reserve.
He was preceded in death by his wife June 20, 1997; and brothers Clifford and Lloyd.
Among his survivors are his daughter Becky Thiel and son and daughter-in-law George and Christine Thiel, all of Minden; sisters Edna Smith of Cody, Wyo., and Theresa Papez of Bridger, Mont.; brother Lew of Dayton, Wyo.; grandchildren Christopher Judson, Tammy Mahe, Kelly Judson-Eley and Stephanie Thiel; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
