Thousands in stolen cash and property recovered

Two men remained in custody Thursday, arrested in connection with a home burglary that netted an estimated $41,000 in cash and property.

Detective Brian Humphrey said Jesse Rumminger, 19, and Daniel Edmonds, 20, have been booked into the Carson City Jail on suspicion of felony burglary and possession of stolen property. Rumminger was also charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Both men are being held on $25,000 bail.

According to the arrest report, jewelry, a safe containing thousands of dollars in cash, a laptop computer, digital camera and savings bonds were stolen Nov. 20 from a home on Buzzy's Ranch Road in east Carson City.

While investigating another burglary case Wednesday, Detective Dave Legros arrested Daniel Miller, 20, in the 2100 block of South Ridge Court at 6:41 a.m. He was charged with the thefts of two electric guitars and a purse. A 16-year-old girl who was with Miller, was arrested for burglary, running away from a group home and violating her juvenile probation.

While making the arrest, Legros learned of a connection between the girl and the home on Buzzy's Ranch Road. An anonymous source mentioned Rumminger's name in connection with the Buzzy's Ranch burglary, Humphrey said.

When Humphrey spoke with Rumminger at his trailer on Clear Creek Road, he allegedly confessed his involvement, Humphrey said.

Rumminger allowed detectives to search his room, where they allegedly recovered jewelry, documents with the victim's name on them and $6,100 in cash. Humphrey said a bag of about five ounces of marijuana and a handgun were also allegedly recovered.

"(Rumminger) admitted to driving two other people identified as (Edmonds) and a 14-year-old male to the Buzzy's Ranch Road area and dropping them off on the night of the burglary," according to the arrest report.

Rumminger then allegedly waited nearby while Edmonds and the juvenile reportedly entered the home, stole the safe and a duffle bag full of items, then called Rumminger to pick them up.

The three allegedly broke the safe open in the desert in Douglas County.

While police were talking with Rumminger, Edmonds showed up at the Clear Creek address. He was arrested on an unrelated misdemeanor warrant and refused to answer questions about the burglary.

A search of Edmonds' storage shed in Douglas County allegedly recovered more of the stolen items, according to the report. Additionally, Humphrey said, the two men apparently spent a large portion of the stolen cash on items such as a flat-screen television, two used Honda CRX vehicles, car parts, jewelry and possibly four bullet proof vests - one of which is believed to have been embezzled from the military. Humphrey said, in all, about $30,000 in cash, along with stolen and newly purchased property was recovered.

Thursday, a 14-year-old Carson Valley Middle School student was also arrested in the burglary.

"This case closes investigations involving all these subjects, with a total of five arrested," said Humphrey. "With the cooperation of all the detectives in here, we've managed to clear up a lot of cases."
