Gateway Access Solutions of Carson City said last week it contracted to sell 52 educational broadband service channel leases to Pegasus Broadband Communications LLC of Bala Cynwyd, Pa., for more than $3 million.
The payments come with a deposit of $360,000; the remaining payments will be made on a lease-by-lease basis upon approval by the FCC.
Gateway's technology uses a combination of radio frequency channels, both licensed and unlicensed, as well as fiber optic cable to deliver broadband Internet, voice-over- Internet and cable television signals via base station antenna to small and medium-sized markets throughout the U.S.
To handle the Pegasus business, employees will be redeployed from Gateway's Albuquerque operations to the Carson City facility, which employs seven, says David Dehls, Gateway's director of sales.
Long-term plans for the Carson City company include an in-house testing lab.
The systems will be configured at the Carson City facility and shipped to project sites throughout the United States.
Gateway's current projects are under way in Las Vegas, Oklahoma City, Tampa,Atlanta and Scranton.
Gateway President Andy Nester said proceeds of the Pegasus sale will go toward expanding the company's efforts to provide wireless service to
business and apartment buildings.
