Take charge of spring weed problem this fall

Fall is a great time to take steps to prevent weeds from overrunning your yard next spring. Learn how you can reduce your spring weeding chores at the free University of Nevada Cooperative Extension presentation "Pre-emergent Herbicides Ð Fall Strategies for Spring Weed Control" from 6-7 p.m. Thursday at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension classroom in Carson City, 2621 Northgate Lane, Suite 12.

Holistic therapies explored in WNCC nursing class

Two Saturday nursing courses at Western Nevada Community College will explore a number of holistic therapies, as part of self-care and those requiring physician visits.

Complementary Medicine I and II (NURS 285B Ð C01 and C02) are one-credit courses that will introduce holistic therapies and applications such as acupuncture, kinesiology, biofeedback, diet, energy medicine, meditation, nutritional supplements, Qi Gong, herbs and flowers, enzyme therapy fasting, traditional Chinese medicine, yoga and more. A demonstration and hands-on practice in acupressure will provide clinical experience.

NURS 285B C02 meets Saturday and Oct. 24 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Cedar Building Room 207, Carson City campus, 2201 W. College Parkway. Cost is $79.75 and includes the cost of class materials. Classes may be taken for Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

Pumpkin Patch to benefit Kids & Horses Saturday

Kids & Horses Therapeutic Riding Center will have a Pumpkin Patch/Fun day fundraiser beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday. Donations are accepted for admission.

Fun and games for kids of all ages include pony rides, pie/cake walk and pumpkins for sale at good prices to benefit the Kids & Horses Therapeutic Riding Center. The center is a nonprofit organization providing therapeutic horseback riding for special-needs children and adults at no charge.

Lunch, pumpkin pie, desserts, popcorn, goodies, sodas and bottled water will be on sale.

To get there, take Highway 395 south to Stephanie Way, Make a left follow Stephanie all the way to Esaw Street; make another left. Follow Esaw to the dirt road. Keep going and look for a big, gray, metal building at 2869 Esaw St.
