Man charged for ramming patrol cars, injuring deputy at traffic stop

The search continues for the passenger involved in an accident and foot chase that sent a Carson City Sheriff's Deputy to the hospital and caused more than $2,500 in damage to patrol cars.

Jevell Johnson, 26, of Sparks was arrested at 2:35 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Lee and Moody Streets on suspicion of felony battery with a deadly weapon with intent to harm, assault with a deadly weapon, battery with a deadly weapon, eluding a peace officer, causing a hit-and-run accident with an injury, misdemeanor driving under the influence of drugs, obstructing a peace officer, causing a hit-and-run accident, and making an illegal U-turn.

According to the arrest report, Carson City Sheriff's deputies initiated a traffic stop in the parking lot of the Carson City Inn on a silver Kia containing three men after allegedly observing it make an illegal U-turn. The driver, later identified as Johnson, exited the vehicle and ran across Carson Street into a parking lot.

Johnson then allegedly circled back to the vehicle, got in, and attempted to drive off, colliding with two patrol cars attempting to stop him, ripping the bumper off one vehicle, and pushing it onto the sidewalk before continuing to evade officers on Carson Street.

The deputy in the patrol car was taken to the hospital with a neck injury, but later released.

The car came to a stop with four flat tires, causing Johnson to exit the vehicle and allegedly flee on foot a second time through several private yards before being apprehended by deputies.

The front passenger also fled, but was not apprehended by deputies; and the back seat passenger was not charged, according to Deputy Wayne Gray.

Bail for Johnson was set at $152,171.
