Lynn Cushman had been crafting for years when angels came her way.
The phenomena occurred when a church group came to her Douglas County studio and she put them to work on a long-existing idea: angel ribbons.
"That was probably six years ago," she said.
The $5 angels, made of wire ribbon, are multifunctional: They can be hung on a tree, attached to a package or remain free-standing.
"Angels have been very good to me," she said.
Cushman is one of 130 crafters who will be selling her wares at the two-day craft fair starting Friday at Carson High School and continuing through Saturday.
The fair begins at 5 p.m. Friday and runs through 8:30 p.m. A sign hanging over Carson Street that posts the start time at 10 a.m. Friday is wrong, according to organizer Cathy Barbie.
This year's craft fair will have 15 more crafters than in the past. Crafts for sale will include decorative eggs, hand-carved board games, soaps, gift baskets, scarves, baby items, pottery, women's clothing, fabric-covered photo albums, cookbooks and address books.
Admission is $2 Friday night and includes free entry Saturday. Entry Saturday is $1.50, or $1 with a can of food.
Last year, more than $11,000 was raised for CHS clubs through sales of raffle tickets, booth costs and admission. The money goes to the parent-teacher association, which splits it up between clubs, many of which help at the fair.
Some of last year's money went to the cost of a van for students going to Washington, D.C., new uniforms for Skills USA competitors and additional equipment for the pole-vaulting club.
Barbie, who is a teacher at Eagle Valley Middle School, took over as craft fair organizer two years ago.
"I send out applications to crafters at the end of January, so it starts from that point on," she said. "Literally, I have about a month off before I start working on next year's show."
Several dance and music groups will be performing in Senator Square, including a guitar duo, a fiddler and a Hula dance group.
Santa will pose with children for $5 photos. The Carson Masonic Lodge will do child-identification cards.
"There's basically something for any age group and any size family," Cushman said. "There's something for everybody to do."
Raffle tickets are 50 cents each. and every vendor is asked to donate a $15 prize, including Cushman.
"I've been crafting for 23 years," she said. "I've been at the (CHS craft fair) nine years. It's a fun craft fair. I enjoy meeting new people and seeing people I only see once a year."
