The U.S.
sales office of an international computer memory and Flash card company plans to start operations at a Reno location in November.
Prime Memorysolution, Inc.
is an independent subsidiary of European-based Memory Solution, Inc., with annual sales of about $125 million worldwide.
Prime Memorysolution plans to hire five to 10 people at the Reno location next year, primarily salespeople, says Volker J.Huber, president and chief executive officer.
Dominic Brunetti and Scott Shanks of Alliance Commercial Real Estate Service, LLC handled the lease of just under 1,000 square feet of space on Kietzke Lane.Huber projects U.S.
sales of $8 million to $10 million next year.
Initially based in Florida, Prime Memorysolution was founded in April 2004 because,"The European market was not big enough for us any longer," says Huber.
He credits Ken Pierson, director of business development at the Economic Development Association ofWestern Nevada, with providing information on Nevada's favorable business climate and tax benefits.
The Reno location provides proximity to the California market, home to over 60 percent of U.S.
customers.
The company's products are memory modules for computers and Flash cards, which increase operating speed in digital products from cameras to cell phones.
Memory Solution sells about 3.6 million Flash cards and 2.5 million memory modules each year and is a major distributor of Infineon modules in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Infineon Technologies makes semiconductors for about 20 percent of all computers worldwide.
Sales made from the Prime Memorysolution office in Reno will be shipped directly to retailers from Infineon's San Jose location, says Huber.
Although a small player compared to industry giant SanDisk, Prime Memorysolution expects to compete on both price and quality, says Huber.
How will new technologies affect growth? Huber says,"Nobody knows what the future brings, but everyone agrees it's going to need memory."
