Daughters of Norway hear Anderson talk

The Daughters of Norway Queen Maud Lodge No. 42 will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, at the corner of Saliman Road and William Street.

The program is a presentation by Christine Buch on Denmark's Hans Christian Andersen.

Women are invited to join the lodge that are of Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, Icelandic heritage or who are married or have been married to a Norwegian, etc.

Picnic dinner and walking tour set at Silver Saddle Ranch

Muscle Powered, Citizens for a Bikeable and Walkable Carson City, will host a picnic dinner and walking tour of the Silver Saddle Ranch at 5 p.m. Friday. Bring a picnic dinner, drink and a dessert to share for community meal following the tour.

Following dinner, there will be several activity options including walking, bike riding (bring your bike) and/or attending the second meeting of the new V&T Trail subcommittee.

Senior driver safety program coming up

An AARP Driver Safety program will be from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Carson City Fire Station on South Stewart Street.

Participants will receive valuable information on compensating for the effects of aging on driving and a review of the rules of the road in Nevada.

Students 55 and over with good driving records will become eligible for auto insurance discounts upon completion of the class.

There is a $10 fee.

Constitution topic of DAR meeting

The Daughters of the American Revolution, John C. Fremont Chapter, will hold its next meeting at 1 p.m. Sept. 17 at Western Nevada Community. The guest speaker will be Jean Kvam, history teacher at Carson City Middle School who will discuss the Constitution.

The Daughters of the American Revolution encourages churches, schools, courthouses, city governments other patriotic organizations and individuals to ring bells at 1 p.m. Sept. 17 so they can hear the sound of patriotism from coast to coast to celebrate Constitution Week.

Douglas County

Dirty-dog wash to benefit DAWG

Animal Medical Services will host a Dirty Dog Wash from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday at 1355 Centerville Lane in Gardnerville. Donations will be accepted to benefit Douglas Animal Welfare Group. Those who can't attend but want to make donations of old towels, dog toys or dog shampoo can drop them off at the vet office.

Pet psychic readings and "crossing-over-style" readings for people by psychic Terri Jay will be available for $20. Music, face painting, cold beverages and Polaroid memories of your kids and pets will also be on hand. Call Animal Medical Services at 782-2297.

Free living history re-enactment Saturday

Nevada State Parks invites the public to enjoy a free living history re-enactment at Mormon Station State Historic Park from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday. Members of the California Pioneer Heritage Foundation and Sutter's Fort Mormon Battalion Garrison Workmen will demonstrate pioneer cooking techniques, rope and doll making, fire starting with flint and steel, leather working, pioneer games, cannon and musket firing and more.
