Online job banks are common as crows, and yet still another has joined their ranks.
Nevada's Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology launched the CET Jobs Directory at www.cetnv.com/jobs.
Activated it, actually.
It's been a part of the Web site for three years, says Dave Archer, executive director, but people didn't know about it because it was not actively promoted. Currently, it boasts all of two job listings.
"I expect that to increase significantly," says Archer, just appointed this year as director of CET. To get the word out, he's sending email posts to the 5,000-plus list members. And who is subscribed to that list? "The broadest cross-section imaginable," he says.
"I believe in industry specific job banks," says Archer. "Doing it at CET is such a natural thing."
The public appears to agree. More than double the expected number opened the e-mail promoting the service, Archer says, and and the click through was a whopping 40 percent.
Part of what makes a healthy business community is a base of trained and highly skilled employees to support the businesses in our region, says the promotional post. CET recognizes this and wants to help both employers and job seekers connect. During the introductory period, the Jobs Directory is a free service for both.
Archer has seen first hand the popularity of industry specific job banks in his role as president of the Reno chapter of the American Marketing Association.
"AMA people regularly post and cruise the site for jobs in sales and marketing," he says. That list is also promoted via posts to the email list membership, numbering 7,000.
Other groups in the area maintain industry specific job banks, such as Advertising Society of Northern Nevada, Sierra Nevada Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, and Northern Nevada Human Resources Association.
