An international distributor of bicycling gear leased a 30,000-square-foot property situated on nearly two acres at 5070 Sigstrom Drive in the Arrowhead industrial area.
Veltec Sports, Inc. plans to open its doors in north Carson City in November with about 30 employees, says Josh Greenberg, managing director.
The company is relocating from Monterey, Calif., where it operates in 17,000 square feet. There, it employs 30 inside and another 30 outside sales reps.
About 40 percent of its current workforce will relocate; the remainder will be hired locally. Positions will include customer service and sales, accounting and marketing, information technology and Web development, and of course, logistics and distribution.
"We want to create an environment that's a fun place to come," says Greenberg. "We will become involved in the cycling community. Where we are now, it's hard for our people to live. It's difficult on people and on the company. Here, we hope our workers can enjoy the American dream."
Veltec has two sister companies in Germany and the Netherlands, as well as Shebeest, a wholly owned subsidiary in Santa Ana, Calif.
Veltec has seen a 15 to 20 percent growth over the last six years, says Greenberg, a trend he expects to continue.
The company's marketing is closely aligned with manufacturers, says Greenberg. Veltec supports product sales with print media, promotions and point of purchase displays. It sells through 3,000 retailers in the United States and Canada. While 20 percent of sales are made on line, Greenberg says 80 percent of cycling enthusiasts buy on site at retailers.
Bruce Robertson represented the landlord and Jack Brower the tenant in the company's negotiations. Both are advisors with Sperry Van Ness in Carson City.
