The company that launched free-circulation newspapers in Carson City, Carson Valley and South Lake Tahoe last week plans to expand during the next two months.

The new free newspapers were launched by Sierra Nevada Media Group, which operates seven newspapers in northern Nevada and the Lake Tahoe region, including the Nevada Appeal in Carson City and the Tahoe Daily Tribune at South Lake Tahoe.

The company said it will begin distribution of a free newspaper at Incline Village in March with Truckee and Tahoe City to follow in April.

The papers, all of which carry the "Today" name, carry primarily world and national news.

The editions for Carson City and the Minden-Gardnerville area are distributed Wednesday through Sunday. The edition for South Lake Tahoe will be distributed on Saturday and Sunday.

John DiMambro, general manager of Sierra Nevada Media Group, said the new papers provide distribution on days when the company's traditional newspapers aren't published.

Sierra Nevada Media Group, the Carson City-based company previously known as Tahoe-Carson Area Newspapers, is an operating unit of Reno-based Swift Newspapers Inc.

(Swift Newspapers also is part owner of Northern Nevada Business Weekly.)
