You already knew this, but statistics compiled by United Van Lines show that Californians accounted for an outsized percentage of the population growth of northern Nevada last year.

The moving company said 169 of the loads it brought into Washoe County last year came from California more than 31 percent of its total of 538 inbound shipments.

Texas was a distant second, accounting for 33 United Van Lines shipments into Washoe County.

Rounding out the top five were Illinois and Oregon, with 24 shipments each, and Florida and Washington, with 20 each.

In other counties in the region, the preponderance of move-in traffic from California was equally striking.

In Carson City, the 19 shipments from California handled by United Van Lines were nearly 37 percent of the company's total.

In Lyon County, the 31 loads handled for families moving from California were 57 percent of the total.

And in Douglas County,move-ins from California generated 45 percent of United's inbound business.

When northern Nevada families moved out of the state, they were most likely headed to California.

In Washoe County, shipments to California totaled 73 about 18 percent of the 387 outbound loads handled by United.

Other common destinations were Arizona (38 loads), Washington (30), Oregon (24) and Texas (22).

Lyon County, among the fastest-growing communities in the region, arecorded 2.16 inbound shipment for every outbound load.

The ratio was 2.0 in Carson City meaning two families moved in for every one that moved out.

In Douglas County, the ratio was 1.47, and the ratio for Washoe County was 1.39.
