Rail City Casino in Sparks last week started construction of a $13.5 million, 24,000-square-foot expansion.
The 25-year-old casino will add casino space, a new restaurant and brewpub and a VIP lounge. The current casino is 16,000 square feet.
Construction is expected to be complete in six months. The original building, once a furniture warehouse, opened as a casino known as Plantation Station in 1981. The name was changed to Rail City in 1997.
The property is owned by The Sands Regent of Reno.
