A partnership between the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection and the Nevada Small Business Development Center is reducing environmental pollution, a recent survey found.
In the survey conducted this spring, 72 clients of the center's Business Environmental Program reported that the program assisted them in reducing hazardous and industrial wastes by 248,607 pounds in 2005 with a resulting savings of $486,900.
Ninety-eight percent of the respondents said they were able to maintain or improve their compliance with hazardous waste management regulations because of their participation in the program.
The center's environmental program provides free and confidential services to help businesses with environmental regulations.
The division of environmental protection has funded the center since 1988, and is the largest funding source for the program, contributing $150,000 this year.
In 2005, the Business Environmental Program staff of three answered 771 telephone calls, trained 544 seminar participants, and provided technical assistance during 49 on-site visits with business and government clients.
