A Cornell University researcher who specializes in the effects of climate on fresh and hardened concrete will be the featured speaker at the Sierra Nevada Concrete Association's eighth annual expo in Reno next week.
The event, which in previous years has drawn 250 or more construction and design professionals as well as representatives of governmental agencies, runs from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 6 at Lawlor Events Center at the University of Nevada, Reno.
Among the speakers is Ken Hover, a Cornell researcher who's been the top-rated technical speaker at the industry's World of Concrete event for 12 consecutive years.
He was recognized in 2006 as one of the 10 most influential people in the U.S. concrete industry.
Hover, who spent 15 years as a construction executive before moving to Cornell, will review placement and curing techniques for concrete jobs in hot and cold weather.
Along with seminars on use of concrete in construction, the expo will include trade-show exhibits and a presentation on the concrete-canoe design competition among UNR students.
Participants can earn continuing-education credits through the American Institute of Architects or UNR's continuing education program.
The registration fee of $35 includes lunch and a continental breakfast. To register on-line, go to sierranevadaconcrete.com or call Lisa Bruce at 852-6551.
